Ruth Sawyer was born on August 5, 1880 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. She was a writer, known for The Primrose Ring (1917) and Jackanory (1965). She was married to Albert C. Durand. She died on June 3, 1970.

Won The Laura Ingalls Wilder Award in 1965.

Daughter Peggy Durand married children's book author and illustrator Robert McCloskey.

Studied folklore and storytelling at Columbia University.
