Biography

Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy (1979). Conn Smythe Trophy (1969). Second All-Star Team Defense (1979).

Played defenseman for the Montreal Canadians (1966-1981) and Winnipeg Jets (1981-1983).

Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1986.

In a game during the 1970-1971 season against the Rangers, he skated after New York's Rod Gilbert, trying to stop a breakaway. Savard dove for the puck and felt his left leg crumble underneath him. The result was five separate fractures and three operations that took him out of the game for three months.

He was awarded the O.C. (Officer of the Order of Canada) on April 13, 1994 for his services to sports and charities in Canada.
