Yasushi Sasaki began his career working miscellaneous jobs at Shochiku Studio where he was also taught by and worked with Yasujirō Ozu. In the 1950s and now a director in his own right Sasaki moved to Toei Studio where he worked on several jidaei geki or period films and its samurai-related sub-category, chambara films.
