- On January 9, 2019, it was revealed that she had been separated from her husband of 13 years Patrick Whitesell for some time and had been having an affair with married Jeff Bezos. That information came out when a political supporter of US President Donald Trump threatened to publish compromising photos he had obtained of Sanchez and Bezos--who owned "The Washington Post", a newspaper that often criticized Trump and his policies--unless Bezos ordered the Post to stop criticizing Trump. Instead, Bezos went public with the extortion attempt and his affair with Sanchez.
