Biography

Character actor of the 1930's and 40's with pronounced nasal delivery, on stage from 1899. In films, mostly seen as refined gentlemen of the old school: kindly fathers, professors, school principals, dignified minor aristocrats, and the like.

In the 30s Heins Salfner advanced to a very busy actor in movies and he often impersonated impressive support roles.

His appearances in front of the camera in the 20s remained seldom , because the theater was still his main activity.

Heinz Salfner was able to play till to his death, to his last cinematical works belong "Der grosse König" (1942), "Glück bei Frauen" (1944) and "Die Fledermaus" (1946).

The actor Heinz Salfner first studied literature and art history but finally he dedicated to the acting and made his stage debut in 1899. In the next years he played at different German theaters, in 1908 he came to the Stadttheater Leipzig where he also directed some plays. Other engagements led him among others also to Berlin.
