João Saldanha was born on 3 July 1917 in Alegrete, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. He was an actor, known for Girl of Ipanema (1967), Futebol Total (1974) and Passe Livre (1974). He was married to Ruth Villara Viotti, Maria Silvia, Thereza Bulhões, Hilda Furação and Heloísa. He died on 12 July 1990 in Rome, Lazio, Italy.

Managed Brazil to the 1970 World Cup title.

Cousin of <a class="ipc-md-link ipc-md-link--entity" href="/name/nm0423388/?ref_=nmtrv_trv">Antonio Carlos Jobim</a>.
