Biography

Edward Said was born on November 1, 1935 in Jerusalem, Palestine [now Israel]. He was a writer, known for Great Performances (1971), The Myth of 'The Clash of Civilizations' (1998) and The Other (1999). He was married to Mariam Said and Maire Jaanus. He died on September 25, 2003 in New York City, New York, USA.

Edward Said was a Palestinian American academic, political activist, and literary critic who examined literature in light of social and cultural politics and was an outspoken proponent of the political rights of the Palestinian people and the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
