  • Effie Cylania Walker was born Effie Cylania Walker September 1, 1880 in Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County, Michigan.

    She started out in a banjo band in Detroit, then went to the New York Stage, where she called herself "Effie Vanderhorn". She was a chorus girl at that time, have a picture of her in "the girl from Dixie".

    She met Gordon Sackville in New York, and married him. They went to Detroit when the silent movies came out, rented a hall, but let the lease lapse, thinking it wouldn't last. Then they decided to go to Hollywood to make movies. They divorced, and she remarried Joe Magee, divorced him. Took writing classes at Berkeley, and had one story published. On a dare, while drunk, took a test at Los Angeles County, and became a social worker until she retired.

    She was on Broadway in New York in a production called "Babes in The Woods" - early 1900's, "Jesse L. Lasky's production of "The Photo Shop" - early 1900's (1916 - I think)., There was a photo of her on The Bulletin: San Francisco, Saturday Feb. 2, 1918 - Photo title is "Graham Hale Learns the Truth" - a portrait of her (I have) is signed "Effie Von Horn "The Girl From Dixie 1904 (or 1914?)", and she was under contract with The Selig movie company.

    She died on May 24 1969, Riverside California. Buried under the name Jean Magee.
