Biography

Sabina (sometimes billed as Sabeena) was born October 20, 1945 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh state. She got her start when Ismat Chugtai, the wife of film director Saheed Latif, introduced the girl to filmmaker Mehbhoob Khan who cast her in a small role in his 1962 film Son of India. Sabina continued to play supporting roles in films through the 60s and early 70s appearing in many major films such as Mehndi Lagi Mere Haath (1962), Teesri Manzil (1966), Shagird (1967), Ganwaar (1970), Gambler (1971), and Mere Jeevan Saathi (1972). Some of the horror, sci-fi and fantasy pictures she worked on include Flying Man (1965), Sindbad, Alibaba, Aladin (1965), Poonam Ki Raat (1965), Husn Aur Isq (1966), Elaan (1971), and Bees Saal Pehle (1972).In a 1964 interview for Picturpost magazine she talked about what it takes to be an actress in Bombay: "A girl who wants to become an actress has got to keep on working to improve herself. It is necessary to adopt some individuality in looks, poise and walk. An actress must also have self-discipline. Regular hours for everything are essential. She should sleep, eat and do things at certain fixed hours; it is impossible to regulate shooting time for it is left to factors over which we have no control. But an actress could get up early and do something of an exercise daily. It is no use getting up from bed pale with deadly looks. One should watch one's figure which means an artiste should refuse to go to parties and frivolous gatherings and night orgies
