Johnny Russell was born on January 23, 1940 in Moorhead, Mississippi, USA. He was an actor and composer, known for Remember the Titans (2000), Gentlemen Broncos (2009) and Act Naturally (1989). He died on July 3, 2001 in Nashville, Tennessee, USA.

He was a country singer song writer. He wrote such country hits as "Act Naturally", for Buck Owens; "Hurt Her Once For Me", for The Wilburn Brothers; "Got No Reason Now For Going Home", for Gene Watson and "Let's Fall To Pieces Together" for George Strait. He also had many hits as a singer, including "Red Necks", "White Socks" and "Blue Ribbon Beer". Catfish John, The Babtisim Of Jessie Taylor, and Making Plans. Making Plans was also a hit for many other country artists.
