Biography

Iris Russell was born on February 22, 1922 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaya [now Malaysia]. She was an actress, known for The Avengers (1961), Bleak House (1959) and Timeslip (1970). She was married to William Gordon Chapman. She died on February 13, 2014 in Headington, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, UK.

Played John Steed's blind boss 'Father' in the 1969 "Avengers" episode "Stay Tuned".

British character actress, born to Scottish parents in Malaya. She attended drama school in Edinburgh and subsequently joined Donald Wolfit's Shakespearian company. She later acted on stage in London and with the Glasgow Citizen's Theatre. Her major recurring role in television was in the series "Timeslip".

Her husband, William Gordon Chapman, was a Fellow of The Queen's College, a constituent college of the University of Oxford.

Russell lived in Summertown, a suburb of Oxford.

In 1941 she joined the forces touring group ENSA - the Entertainment National Service Association.
