Biography

Billy Russell was born on July 16, 1893 in Birmingham, England, UK. He was an actor, known for The Man in the White Suit (1951), Cold Comfort Farm (1968) and The Woodlanders (1970). He was married to Violet Rosalie Hing and Mary Docherty. He died on November 25, 1971 in London, England, UK.

Walrus moustache and bulbous, pitted nose

British music hall comedian, on stage from the age of seven. Billed as 'The Son of Toil', he was best known for his working-class act in which appeared attired in a squashed and oil-grimed hat, hobnailed boots, collarless shirt with red handkerchief tied around the throat and moleskin trousers secured just below the knee with string.

Was cast as the Librarian (Crystallography expert), but became ill in January 1971 during production. He died in December of the same year. His character was removed from the film, with some of his lines transferred to the Tramp (Paul Farrell).

An expert tumbler, he taught Charles Laughton how to fall down a chute for Hobson's Choice (1954).
