Biography

Catarina Ruivo was born on January 24, 1971 in Coimbra, Portugal. She is an editor and director, known for André Valente (2004), Daqui P'ra Frente (2007) and Second Hand (2012).

Life is made up of losses and choices. To choose one thing is to lose another, and you have to learn to live with that. I feel that the business of growing up, of assuming adulthood, is a highly enriching experience. That's when you experience all the fears, desires and doubts that are going to plague you for the rest of your life!

When you're lucky enough to edit with the same degree of freedom that I had, the gap between editing and directing narrows. Because you're working on the development of dramatic structures and narratives. Editing and writing scripts gave me the experience and the courage I needed to have a go at directing a feature film.
