Biography

Gabrielle Roy was born on March 25, 1909 in St. Boniface, Manitoba, Canada. She was a writer, known for Le vieillard et l'enfant (1985), The Tin Flute (1983) and Restless River (2019). She was married to Marcel Carbotte. She died on July 13, 1983 in Québec, Canada.

Was a teacher in Manitoba and Winnipeg for 12 years.

She was awarded the C.C. (Companion of the Order of Canada) on July 6, 1967 for her services to Canadian Literature.

A curious thing: on the prairie one can feel infinitely small, and at the same time infinitely uplifted.
