At the same time as studying at the Sadiki College in Tunis, Hichem Rostom became interested in theater thanks to Aly Ben Ayed, who offered him to participate in the creation of Othello by William Shakespeare, which inaugurated the International Cultural Center of Hammamet in 1964.

Hichem Rostom was born in La Marsa, Tunisia, to a family of Circassian descent.

He starred in Golden Horseshoes, which was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 1989 festival in Cannes.

Rostom showed a keen interest in acting at a young age because of his maternal grandfather, who used to take him to the Theater frequently.

He made a short appearance in the role of stage manager in the film L'Aile ou la Cuisse alongside Louis de Funès.

He was known for his productions of plays such as Caligula or L'Étranger; and he also led theater workshops in Tunisian universities.

He has appeared in more than 70 films and television shows since 1987.

He moved to France where he lived for years to further his studies and graduated from Sorbonne University's Institute of Theatre Studies and the Institute of Advanced Cinematographic Studies.

In 2017, Hichem Rostom helped in organizing the Rouhaniyet Festival in Nefta, Tunisia, which is an event where spiritual and Sufi songs were performed.

For twenty years, he participated in nearly sixty plays, some of which were produced by Bernard Sobel, Jacques Lassalle and Tadeusz Kantor.

His acting talent was discovered by the Tunisian actor Ali Ben Ayed.

He worked as an animator at Radio France and then at the National Popular Theatre before he returned to Tunisia in 1988 to pursue a professional career as an actor after being offered a role in the Tunisian drama film Golden Horseshoes.

He directed the Carthage Theatre Festival for two sessions.

In his youth, he studied at Sadiki College, Tunis, where he earned his Baccalaureate degree.
