- Maria Rosseels was born on October 23, 1916 in Borgerhout, Flanders, Belgium. She was a writer and actress, known for Dood van een non (1975), Het snoer der vreugden (1959) and Het huwelijk van Margaretha van York en Karel de Stoute (1960). She died on March 18, 2005 in Kalmthout, Flanders, Belgium.
- She started her professional career as a teacher at a school in Gierle, but she left the school to work, from 1941 up to 1944, at the department of internal affairs of the Ministry of Labor in Brussels.
- A recurring theme in her novels is the problems that Christians struggle with in the modern world.
- Besides her journalism she created an impressive literary oeuvre. As a writer she created some important female characters. First of all Elisabeth from the Elisabeth trilogy, of which the first part appeared in 1953. She also advocated for the emancipation of women in conservative Flanders in the 1950s and 1960s.
- She was knighted and became a Baroness in 1988.
- Rosseels received an honorary PhD from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in 1981.
