Biography

  • Willie was born in East Molesley, London on 11th July 1938. Hs family moved to Newcastle upon Tyne in 1947, then to Kielder, then Newton Aycliffe, He was educated at Coundon Secondary Modern School. On leaving, he joined the army for six years training at the Kenza Hall Military College of Music. On being demobbed, he joined the Mecca Band where he met Peter Lambert. Humour developed between them and eventually they formed the partnership of Lambert and Ross in 1968, which lasted until 1988. After appearing in the film Rita Sue and Bob Too, he decided that he wanted to act and went on to appear in 'Riff Raff, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, and The Witches. He also had numerous guest spots on television, in such as One Foot in the Grave, London is Burning, Stay Lucky and a Hamlet Cigar television commercial with Russ Abbott.
