Biography

Sinclair Ross was born on January 22, 1908 in Shellbrook, Saskatchewan, Canada. He was a writer, known for Festival (1960), The Painted Door (1984) and Cornet at Night (1963). He died on February 29, 1996 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

He was awarded the C.M. (Member of the Order of Canada) on April 30, 1992 for his services to Canadian Literature.

Although his first novel, "As for Me and My House," sold poorly in its initial 1941 release, a 1957 reprint as part of The New Canadian Library series has led critics and scholars to recognize it as one of the seminal works of Canadian fiction. The dense psychological tale of a preacher and his wife in rural Canada during the Great Depression is now viewed as a prototype of Canadian Prairie Fiction.
