Biography

Adolf 'Eddy' Rosner was born on May 26, 1910 in Berlin, German Empire. He was an actor, known for Carnival Night (1956) and One Chance in a Thousand (1969). He was married to Ruth Turkow. He died on August 8, 1976 in Berlin, Germany.

Eddie Rosner was a teenage virtuoso in classical trumpet before joining a successful German hot-jazz band, Weintraub's Syncopators, in 1930. When the Nazis took power, the Jewish musician fled to Poland, opening his own club, Chez Adi, in Lodz. When the Germans occupied Poland, he fled to the Soviet Union, where, during World War II, he performed on the front for the Soviet troops. After the war, the winds turned, and he was arrested as a purveyor of decadent capitalistic music and shipped to Siberia, and did not leave the gulag until Stalin's death in 1954.

Touring the Italian peninsula in 1934, Eddie Rosner's 13-piece Polish swing band crossed Louis Armstrong's band, and a trumpet "cutting contest" was arranged. After the contest (which Armstrong won), each artist gave the other a publicity photo. One was dedicated to the "White Louis Armstrong" and the other to the "black Eddie Rosner".
