She grew up as the third of seven children of the East Prussian musician Otto Rosenberg, who survived his imprisonment in the Auschwitz concentration camp during the Nazi regime. At the age of 15 she was discovered at a youth competition. She celebrated her first hit with her first single "Mr. Paul McCartney". The first album "Fremder Mann" followed in 1971, after which she launched an impressive career that made her the most successful German singer of the decade. Between 1971 and 1980 alone, Marianne Rosenberg released 17 albums, which also made her one of the most productive artists of that time. Her most successful pieces include titles such as "He belongs to me", "I am like you" and "Marleen", which became cult hits in the following years. At the beginning of the 1980s she made it back into the singles charts with cover versions such as "Ruf an" by Blondie and "Nur Sieger steh'n im Licht" by Abba.

At the height of the "Neue Deutsche Welle" she performed with Kai Hawaii, singer of the group Extrabreit, as "Duo Infernal". Meanwhile, she took part in the preliminary rounds of the Grand Prix De La Chanson in 1975, 1976 and 1980. In 1984/85 she appeared in the films "Der Biß", "Die Komplizin" and "Reichshauptstadt privat", some of which she also composed the soundtracks for. In 1989 she released the gold-winning album "Uns brennt die Nacht", on which Rio Reiser also contributed. In 1989 she sang the theme music for the television series "Rivalen der Rennbahn". She celebrated one of her greatest successes in 1989 with the hit "I think of you". Her albums "...and you can't do anything about it" and "Feuerrosen" were released in 1991 and 1993, before her first English-language album "Set the night on fire" followed in England in 1993. In 1995 Marianne Rosenberg started a big tour of Germany to support the live double album "5 Days and 5 Nights".

In 1996 she took part in Rio Reiser's memorial concert. In 1997 she presented the song "Männer" exclusively on the Internet and began her "All in White" tour. Her album "Luna" followed in 1998. In 1999 she released the chart single "When Tomorrow Comes" as a cover version of Cher's hit "Strong Enough". In 2000, she made her debut as a TV host presenting "13th Street", the Action & Suspence channel on Premiere. In November 2001, Marianne Rosenberg took on the title role in the Kurt Weill musical "Die Venus". In 2004 her albums "Forever Like Today" and "lieder der Nacht" were released. In 2005 she was nominated for the "Echo" music award in the "Best National Singer - Rock/Pop" category. She announced her autobiography entitled "Kokolores" in 2006. In 2009, Rosenberg dubbed the role of Mama Odie in the Disney animated film "Kiss the Frog." In February 2011 she released the album "Regenrhythmus".
