Biography

Michael T. Rosen is an award-winning Writer, Producer and Director in feature films, television and digital. He's known for telling unique, compelling and uncompromising stories that have tackled critical issues including civil rights, social justice, mass shootings, illegal whale hunting, the global water crisis, and more.

Michael enjoys mentoring new filmmakers who have important and passionate stories to tell. Recently, he executive produced Marrow of the Mountain by first-time directors Dylan Stirewalt and Solange Yepez, which tells the story of three Indigenous women and a scientific expedition who join forces to fight mega-mining in Ecuador's Amazon rainforest.

Rosen's feature doc producing credits also include Breach (Amazon, Hulu), by first-time director Jonny Zwick; Wind Riders (Apple TV, Amazon Prime), by first-time director Emi Katayama; When I Rise (PBS) by director Matt Hames; and Murder by Proxy (The Documentary Channel) by first-time director Emil Chiaberi.

Michael simultaneously produced two projects that filmed three ultra-marathoners' attempt to run across the Africa continent, non-stop, for more than 100 days. First, he was a field producer on the feature documentary, Running The Sahara (theatrical, Showtime, ESPN), directed by James Moll and narrated by Matt Damon. Second, he also produced, directed and wrote narration for the TV special Beyond the Expedition (National Geographic Channel).

In digital content, Rosen has been at the forefront. He wrote, produced directed films for Water the non-profit founded by Matt Damon and Gary White. Filming with Damon throughout India, Haiti and the U.S., Rosen helped create record-breaking social media campaigns to highlight the global water crisis. YouTube Influencers included Shay Carl, EpicLLOYD and LivePrudeGirls. Celebrities included Sir Richard Branson, Olivia Wilde, Jessica Biel, Jason Bateman and Bono.

As Head of Production, Michael launched the Television Academy's first digital production division. For five years, he developed, wrote and produced 30 projects annually to promote the Academy and its Primetime Emmys.

Rosen also co-founded The Archive of American Television (now entitled The Interviews) for the TV Academy Foundation, which documents the history of American television. As Executive Producer, Rosen launched and built what became the world's largest visual history endeavor of its kind. During his tenure, he produced and directed over 2,000 hours of unedited on-camera interviews with over 500 television legends and pioneers. He co-founded the project with television luminaries Grant Tinker, David L. Wolper, Tom Sarnoff and Dean Valentine. The project continues and to date has completed nearly 1,000 interviews.

Over the years, Rosen's produced and/or directed projects for Apple, Bravo, IFC, USA Films (now Focus Features) and TV Land.

Born and raised in Seattle, WA, Michael knew he wanted to be a filmmaker at 11 years old. An alumnus of UCLA Film & Television School, Michael's the recipient of five Telly Awards, The Fund's Social Justice Award, a CINE Gold Eagle, and multiple film festival awards. Now living in Los Angeles, he and his wife are raising two boys.
