Biography

Trained as a dancer and first on stage in Johannesburg in 1930. Studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts from 1935 to 1936 and later joined the BBC Drama Repertory Company. She spent much of the latter part of her life working on the script for her film on Richard Burton. It was acquired by Richard Attenborough, but the film was never made.

In the 1960s she became a Beverly Hills hostess residing at The Hacienda the mansion once owned by John Barrymore.

Her grandfather emigrated from Ireland to South Africa.

It was announced in November 1949 that she would portray the French tragedienne Rachel in a film to be produced and directed by William Dieterle with Zachary Scott co-starring; the project did not come to pass.
