Robby Romero
Rights in Action. Standing Rock Stronghold, "Where Sitting Bull Lives On and the Struggle of Our People Unfolds", lyrics from the song BORN ON THE REZ written by Robby Romero. - CULTURAL SURVIVAL MAGAZINE

Robby Romero's BORN ON THE REZ was written during the Standing Rock spiritual resistance to Kelcy Warren's, Dakota Access Pipeline. A sneak peek was first heard on Moccasin Wire, hosted by Pat Romero of Taos Pueblo on KTAO 101.9FM World Famous Solar Radio. The single took off impacting Native Radio from the heart of the Lakota Nation on KILI 90.1FM and KLND 89.5FM across Indian Country.

The star studded collective of friends and family - musicians and actors, Native and not, who came together for this project, produced by Don Was, and featuring Dennis Banks and the legendary Kris Kristofferson are a testament to Robby's influence and integrity. Not to mention his lifetime commitment to this most worthy and crucial cause. - Lynne Robinson, TAOSTYLE

"Robby Romero is an articulate artist and advocate for the causes and concerns behind a cultural resistance that is older than this country." - Danny Schechter, Media Channel

After an eight-year hiatus, which included a global pandemic, Robby returns to the studio to record a new album, Rhythms Of Resilience. The first single, "Where Thunder Finds Her," a poignant true-crime ballad, was released on May 5th, in honor of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, and in observance of #MMIP Awareness Day and Month. It serves as a powerful reminder of the urgent need to end this tragic crisis.

Robby rose to prominence with the global broadcast of his first music picture, Is It Too Late. He was presented with the title of United Nations Ambassador of Youth for the Environment and a Certificate of Appreciation Award from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), signed by Executive Director, Mostafa K. Tolba.

Over the past three decades, Robby has used the international languages of music and film to help shift the paradigm and bridge the gap between Indigenous Peoples, human rights, and the environment through his non-profit organization, Native Children's Survival, an Indigenous Peoples Organization in Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic & Social Council (ECOSOC).

With his World Alert Special and directorial film debut, Makoce Wakan: Sacred Earth (1993), Robby Romero’s music pictures introduced Native Rock music to the music television generation. As part of MTV’s "Free Your Mind" campaign, his Indigenous stereotype-breaking public service announcements won the CableAce Award. His politicized rockumentary films catapulted him into an arena of his own making.

Robby has shared the stage with multi-platinum artists including Carlos Santana, Bonnie Raitt, and Cat Stevens, and with dignitaries such as the Dalai Lama, Archbishop Tutu, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Nelson Mandela, Gorbachev, and Peres. He’s received multiple awards and cultural honors for his work.

Lynn Robinson, Taos Tempo (arts & entertainment magazine) Editor, wrote of Robby’s 2018 single and music picture, Born On The Rez, "The star-studded collective of friends and family, musicians and actors, Native and not, who came together for this project, produced by Don Was, and featuring Banks and the legendary Kris Kristofferson, are a testament to Robby’s influence and integrity. Not to mention his lifetime commitment to this most worthy and crucial cause."

The Encyclopedia of North American Indians Past to Present states, "Red Thunder has commanded the largest audience of any contemporary Indian music group."

The Los Angeles Times Magazine speaks of Robby's work as, "changing the world and the world of music."

Joel Selvin, the legendary music critic and author known for his weekly column in the San Francisco Chronicle, writes, "The guitar, vocals, and songs of Robby Romero boast a powerful vocal style that treats sensitive matters of spirituality with firm certainty."
