Biography

Helene Riechers was born on June 6, 1869 in Hamburg, Germany. She was an actress, known for Die Jungen vom Kranichsee (1950), Schatten über den Inseln (1952) and The Axe of Wandsbek (1951). She died on July 15, 1957 in East Berlin, East Germany.

In addition to acting, from 1910 onwards she devoted herself primarily to serving as the first chairwoman of the newly founded women's committee of the Association of German Stage Employees.

During the Nazi dictatorship, she was banned from performing in 1935. After the end of the Second World War, she was engaged at the Hebbel-Theater from 1948 to 1952, and from 1952 onwards at the Deutsches Theater Berlin and its affiliated Kammerspiele. There, too, she frequently played leading roles in works by August Strindberg and Henrik Ibsen.

Following her debut in Breslau, she undertook guest engagements in Memel (1892), Göttingen (1894), and—from 1895 to 1898—at the Theater der Literatur in Leipzig. Between 1900 and 1906, she went on several tours, performing works by August Strindberg and Henrik Ibsen, among others. During the 1906/1907 season, she performed at the Neues Theater in Berlin.

Helene Riechers was a German actress who made her debut in Breslau in 1891.

From 1950 onwards, Helene Riechers also appeared in various film productions. These included the well-known DEFA films 'Das Beil von Wandsbek' by Falk Harnack—starring Erwin Geschonneck, Käthe Braun, and Claus Holm—and 'Die Unbesiegbaren' by Arthur Pohl, featuring Willy A. Kleinau, Werner Peters, and Karl Paryla. She made her final feature film appearance in 1956 as a fruit seller in the fairy-tale film' Das tapfere Schneiderlein" by Helmut Spieß, starring Kurt Schmidtchen, Fred Kronström, and Gisela Kretzschmar.
