A successful comedian in the Northern clubs for over thirty years, he made his acting debut in The Price of Coal in 1976, later appearing in Coronation Street, All Creatures Great and Small and Last of the Summer Wine. He was married with three sons and three daughters and lived in Barnsley, where he was born and bred.
