In 1948, he separated from Marie Kass without getting a divorce. He moved to Europe and, in 1949, married Marthe Larsen in a civil ceremony in France. They had two children while in Europe and returned to the USA in 1955. Rexroth and Kass were officially divorced on 13 September 1955. Rexroth and Larsen were legally (re)married in June 1958.
