Biography

Robert E. Relyea was born on May 3, 1930 in Santa Monica, California, USA. He was a production manager and assistant director, known for West Side Story (1961), Bullitt (1968) and The Great Escape (1963). He was married to Dorothy. He died on March 5, 2013 in Thousand Oaks, California, USA.

Began his career as a crew member for MGM in 1955.

Had a longtime professional relationship with Steve McQueen, and served as assistant director onNever So Few (1959) and The Magnificent Seven (1960), as well as producer on The Great Escape (1963) and Bullitt (1968). However, they had severe disagreements over the making of "Le Mans", the most personal project of McQueen's career, and afterwards McQueen and he never spoke to each other again.
