Biography

Having escaped from the Midwest on a small bore Honda motorcycle to enroll at the California Institue of Arts, Valencia, California, Regan pursued studies of Animation and 16mm Optical printing, subsequently landing work in the effects shop of Calarts alum Robert Blalack, Praxis Filmworks, under the mentorship of Calarts alum and optical guru Beth Block. The optical printing division of Praxis being a skunkworks of visual manipulative studies based on the conceptual thesis of False Color or Color Record Substitution having found new ground for invention post Star Wars. This exposure at Praxis evolving to an Optical Printing journeyman career extending from employment at Praxis, DreamQuest, Industrial Light and Magic and finally Boss Films, Boss being the proverbial penultimate of traditional film optical hardware as directed by effects guru Richard Edlund. Digital paradigm changes motivated Regan's jump to Pacific Title and Art Studio under the direction of Phil Feiner to ride the dying whale of "film to film" rephotography, optical printing, into an undersea boneyard. From there Regan reinvented himself as a feature Color Timer of cut negative shows at both CFI, Hollywood California and Deluxe Laboratories, Hollywood California. The digital paradigm now extending to full picture mastering, thus eliminating traditional color timing methodology presents the call for further reinvention.
