- Celebrated British musical comedy performer, the daughter of a Jewish actor and an English singer. She was a star of the music halls and variety by the 1890's. On stage in pantomime from the age of four, she remained busy touring South Africa, the U.S. and Australia until the 1930's, from which time she acted in a few films.
