- Sonia Rees is known for The Young and the Guilty (1959).
- Signed by Jack Hilton, Sonia went on to take the leading role of Maria in the West End hit The Sound of Music which ran for five years in the 1960s at London's Palace Theatre. She is rarely credited for the role despite playing Maria for the majority of the run.
- In 1960 Sonia opened the first televised Royal Command Performance (now known as the Royal Variety) as The Crazy Gang's leading lady. Performing for her Majesty Queen Elizabeth alongside many famous faces such as Liberace, Bruce Forsyth, Sammy Davis Jnr and Cliff Richard.
- Sonia starred alongside Peter O'Toole in Oh my Papa at the Garrick Theatre, London.
