Biography

Badly scarred on her upper left arm (as well as over the less visible parts of her body) as a result of scalding herself with a cauldron of boiling soup when she was 18 months old. She spent almost all the time from then until the age of five in the burns unit of a hospital, having plastic surgery by a surgeon who had previously been trained by Archibald McIndoe, the pioneering surgeon who treated WWII pilots who had suffered severe burns in plane crashes.

She was awarded the MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2012 Queen's Birthday Honours List for her services to Drama and to Charity. She is the Actress and Founder of the Artists' Theatre School.

Teaches drama on Saturdays at Ealing Studios to age groups from 5 years to adult.

She turned down the role of Elsa in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) because of her fear of rats.

Daughter Emily Glenister - also an actress - born 1987, from marriage to Robert Glenister.
