- Matti Ranin was born on November 21, 1926 in Tampere, Finland. He was an actor, known for Gas, Inspector Palmu! (1961), The Stars Will Tell, Inspector Palmu (1962) and Inspector Palmu's Error (1960). He was married to Vuokko Laakso and Irja Ranin. He died on November 24, 2013 in Helsinki, Finland.

- Ranin also directed the Finnish dubbing to all Disney animation features (new and re-releases) from 1975 to 1992, among others Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Lady and the Tramp, The Little Mermaid and The Beauty and the Beast.
- The Kasper series was based on the Punch and Judy tradition. The Ranins had their own "Kasper-teatteri" (Kasper Theatre) 1961-1985. It performed puppet plays both live and on TV. Several half-hour TV films were made about Kasper in the seventies.
- Ranin has been very interested in children's culture with his late wife, Irja Ranin. They starred in several children's TV series from the beginning of the sixties. Most famous of them were "Raninin tv-perhe" (The TV Family of Ranins), "Niksulan TV" (TV of the Noddy-Land), and above all the Kasper series.
