Upon her death, she was cremated and her ashes scattered at sea.

Wore a fat suit for her role as Sgt. Laverne Hooks in the Police Academy movies. Originally, the plan was for her character to get thinner as the movies progressed, but the producers later decided not to go through with it.

Marion Ramsey was survived by three of her brothers. She had no other known living relatives at the time of her death.

Marion Ramsey performed frequently as a singer in "Divas Simply Singing," an annual fund-raising event.

She was a lifelong liberal Democrat.

Besides working as a singer, Marion Ramsey had a few credits a a songwriter. In the 1970s, she collaborated will fellow songwriter Haras Fyre (1953-). Their partnership ended c. 1975, when Fyre abruptly terminated most of his working relationships. He took a hiatus from songwriting, due to personal problems.

Her first television part was a guest role on the series The Jeffersons (1975).

Best known for her role as the soft-spoken Officer Laverne Hooks in: Police Academy (1984), Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment (1985), Police Academy 3: Back in Training (1986), Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol (1987), Police Academy 5: Assignment: Miami Beach (1988) and Police Academy 6: City Under Siege (1989).

She played a recurring role on the series Cos (1976).
