- A pioneer figure in British ballet since the 1920's. Marie was recruited by Diaghilev to assist Nijinsky with his choreography for The Rite of Spring. She settled in London and formed her own company, The Ballet Rambert. Based at the tiny Mercury Theatre she managed to create many notable ballets and to bring on some notable dancers and choreographers such as Sir Frederick Ashton. In 1966 she led the London modern dance movement.

- She was awarded the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in the Coronation Honours List of 1953 for her services to ballet.
- She was awarded the DBE (Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in the 1962 Queen's New Year Honours List for her services to ballet.
- After a tour with Nijinsky and Ballet Russes, Rambert's contract was not continued and she decided it was time for a new chapter. In 1914 she moved to the United Kingdom, and studied under Enrico Cecchetti.
- Rambert was the fourth of seven children. The eldest child, Rakhel, was the wife of Hebrew writer Micha Josef Berdyczewski. The second, Ewa Ramberg-Figulla, was a Slavist, the wife of German Hittitologist Hugo Heinrich Figulla and mother of physicist Johannes Figulla (father-in-law of German writer Christoph Hein and grandfather of German writer Jakob Hein).
- She began teaching more ballet classes in 1919 and later founded her own ballet school in Bedford Gardens. In 1926 she created her own company, originally named Ballet Club.
