Biography

  • For more than 25 years, John Rakich, DGCO / LMGI / ATAS, has helped shape the visual worlds of film and television by identifying, developing, and managing the real-world locations that bring stories to life.

A Supervising Location Manager and Location Scout, John has worked on major studio features and television series across multiple continents. He has worked closely with producers, directors, and production designers to find and transform real environments into compelling cinematic settings, while navigating the logistical demands of large-scale production.

John served as President of the Location Managers Guild International (LMGI) from 2021 to 2026, the longest-serving president in the organization’s history. Under his leadership, the Guild expanded its international reach, strengthened relationships with film commissions and allied industry organizations, and further advanced its advocacy for the creative and economic value of location-based filmmaking.

He is a member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, and lends his expertise to several municipal, regional, and international advisory boards. John has also served as a juror for international industry awards recognizing excellence in film production and location work.

A frequent speaker at universities, international symposiums, festivals, media conventions, and podcasts, he contributes regularly to conversations around production sustainability, global production incentives, workforce development, education and training, and the economic impact of location-based filmmaking
