Biography

Scott Rader

Overview

  • Born
    April 1, 1972
  • Birth name
    Scottie Thornton Rader II
  • Height
    5′ 11″ (1.80 m)

Biography

  • Born to Finnish parents, Lawrence and Helga Radar, Scott spent his formative years in Stokholm, Sweden. His father, a traditional central European ice fisherman, promised that he would work as hard as needed to give him a better life. Dismayed by Scottie's apparent lack of interest in pursuing ice fishing as a career, Lawrence's hopes for his sons future hung in the balance. It wasn't till young Scottie was seven years old that his parents took notice of their child's exceptional gift. It was a damp, grey day, all too familiar to the young lad partaking in a typical local game known as "Stoney Stoney". As the boys took turns hurling small flat stones ("stoneys") at local farm animals, Scottie noticed in the distance a fledgling lamb, obviously wounded by a resident pack wolf who sadly missed his kill. The sight of a suffering animal was a bit more than he could bear. Without hesitation, Scottie rumaged through a discarded pile of farm equipment, fashioning a strange looking device from a broken axe handle, steel belt threads from a torn truck tire, and a good size, river washed piece of granite. His young friends stood in disbelief as Scottie violently swung his homemade "hammer" around and around. With what appeared to be precise timing, the young Rader let go of his "flying dutchman" with a fury his comrades had never seen before. Struck dead before it was aware of its fate, the once suffering lamb had now, to Scottie's content, been finally put to rest......Unfortunately Scottie's talent was not enough for a medal in the Hammer Throw at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. His tenacity, and charisma, however, etched his new name, "The Hammer" into the hearts of his Swedish counterparts. Later "The Hammer" moved to Los Angeles where he became a visual effects compositor.
