Biography

He studied the piano at the Royal Accademy and wanted to be a full time composer. After the war, he became a pianist on the children's TV program 'Whirlygig' , which lasted eight years. He did gradually doing more and more talking on the show and became the compere and disc jockey. He had a heart attack in April 1965, caused, he said, by a specific series of incidents: a too hot bath, too big a lunch, a long hurried walk to the studio and program complications when he got there. He was back at work in six months and composed the tune Nicola (named after his daughter), as well as many jingles for TV commercials.

Pianist, composer and radio disc jockey

He devised a number of well-known advertising jingles. The most lucrative for him was "Sweet as the moment when the pod went pop", for Birds Eye frozen peas.
