Sun Ra was born on May 22, 1914 in Birmingham, Alabama, USA. He was a composer and writer, known for Space Is the Place (1974), The Last Thing He Wanted (2020) and Deceiver (1997). He died on May 30, 1993 in Birmingham, Alabama, USA.

Leader of the Sun Ra Arkestra.

He played the piano, organ, and synthesizer.

Inducted into the Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame in 1987.
