  • Quino was born on July 17, 1932 in San José, Mendoza Province, Argentina. He was a writer and director, known for Mafalda (1973), Bez wody (1998) and Me doy cuenta... (2015). He was married to Alicia Colombo. He died on September 30, 2020 in Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza Province, Argentina.

  • He was named "Quino" since childhood, to distinguish him from his uncle, also called Joaquín. This uncle was an illustrator who helped to awaken his desire and career of cartooning at an early age.
  • Following the 1976 coup d'état in Argentina, he and his wife moved to Milan, Italy, and stayed there for seven years, by that time the military dictatorship had come to an end. He subsequently divided his time between Buenos Aires, Madrid, and Milan.
  • His parents were immigrants from Andalusia, Spain. From them he retained an affection for Spanish culture and flamenco. He obtained Spanish citizenship in 1990 and remained a dual citizen of Spain and Argentina.
