Biography

Gianni Quaranta was born on August 30, 1943 in Arsiè, Italy. He was a production designer and art director, known for A Room with a View (1986), 1900 (1976) and Farinelli (1994). He was married to Giuliana Poleggi. He died on September 14, 2025 in Rome, Lazio, Italy.

He worked for cinema, advertising, prose theater and Opera.

He arrived in Milan to study fine arts at the Brera Academy. After graduating, he moved to Rome, where he began working for the theater.

Quaranta began his career in the theatre, working alongside directors such as Luca Ronconi, Giancarlo Menotti, Filippo Crivelli, Mauro Bolognini and Franco Zeffirelli. He created the scenes for great operas and ballets, debuting at La Scala, at the Fenice, at the Opéra of Paris, then in Vienna, Bonn, Rio de Janeiro, Philadelphia and Chicago.

Graduated from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan.
