- Great-grandson of black Ethiopian prince Ibrahim Hannibal, who came to Russia during the Czar Peter the Great's rule, became a general in Russian Army and was given nobility.
- Noting that the great Russian writer had partly-African ancestry, Harry Belafonte tried to set up a film biography of him at the end of the 1950s, with himself in the leading role. Nothing came of this. One of the directors Belafonte approached was Ingmar Bergman, who turned him down curtly, saying "Puskin was a genius; Belafonte is not.".
