- Dieter Pröttel was born on October 31, 1933 in Offenburg, Baden [now Baden-Württemberg], German Reich [now Germany]. He was a director and writer, known for Geld oder Leber! (1986), ...7, 8, 9 aus (1969) and Europarty (1967). He was married to Birte Pröttel. He died on December 26, 2022 in Starnberg, Bavaria, Germany.

- As a student, the doctor of economics toured the concert halls of the young Federal Republic as a member of the »Three Halodies«. The trio made a name for themselves with cabaret cover versions and were finally discovered by Peter Frankenfeld on "Wer will, der kann". Later on, Pröttel worked for ten years at Südwestfunk as a permanent show director and editor. This position was the springboard for his career as an acclaimed director.

- Pröttel was a not only a director for many German television shows. He was also film director, and from 1971 to 1977 editor-in-chief for the listings magazine Bild+Funk.
- Pröttel also directed Germany's first color television program in 1967: the transmission from the Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) in West Berlin had begun as a black-and-white broadcast. The Vice-Chancellor at the time, Willy Brandt, symbolically pressed a red button to convert the live transmission from the trade fair to color TV.
