- Ferdinand Heinrich Proboscht was born in Vienna, Austria in 1890 or 1891 (sources vary). Provost was in Sweden when a competition was held for a piece of music to be used in the film Intermezzo (1936). He won with his composition "Souvenir of Vienna" which was renamed "Intermezzo" to tie in with the film. When David O. Selznick remade the film as Intermezzo (1939), Provost's composition was retained as its main theme, and he became wealthy from the royalties. In the late 1940s he settled in Stockholm, Sweden, where he died in 1959.
