Biography

Nikolay Prokopovich is a Soviet and Russian theater and film actor. People's Artist of the Russian Federation. During his school years, he attended the theater studio at the House of Pioneers. After graduating from high school in 1943, he was drafted into the Red Army and rose through the ranks from soldier to squad leader. He was wounded in Germany in April 1945 and ended the war in a hospital near Berlin with the rank of staff sergeant. Returning to Moscow, Prokopovich enrolled in the Moscow Art Theatre School, graduating in 1949. Since 1949, he has been an actor at the Chamber Theater (since 1950, the Moscow A.S. Pushkin Drama Theater). From 1983 to 1985, he worked at the K.S. Stanislavsky Moscow Drama Theater. Since 1986, he has worked at the Mossovet Theater. He excelled in both comedy and drama, and was noted for his ease and fluidity in portraying his characters.

He began acting in films in 1948, making his debut in The Young Guard (1948). The actor first gained fame for his role as Major Wilhelmi, head of the Abwehr Saturn school, in the war films about intelligence officers Put v 'Saturn' (1967) and Konets Saturna (1968).
