Shonagh is best known for playing Sarah McDonald in the classic soap opera "Take the High Road". Beginning as a fostered teenager, Sarah married young and had a baby whose parentage was a long-term controversy until DNA testing proved that Sarah's husband, Gary, was the father. Sarah was homeless at one point, and then became a squatter. She and Gary found work and were able to rent a cottage on the Glendarroch estate. Gary was murdered and Sarah struggled as a widowed single parent. Her whole world changed when the estate was left in trust to her daughter, and Sarah became the lady laird herself. The series ended in 2003, but Shonagh has remained in demand, and has gone on to play numerous parts in a variety of TV dramas.
