Biography

Michael Price is one of the UK's most sought after composers. His work for film and television has been widely recognised, winning an EMMY award in 2014, and Royal Television Society, Music&Sound, and Televisual Bulldog awards as well as a BAFTA nomination and 2 further EMMY nominations for the critically acclaimed BBC series Sherlock (2010), which he scores with David Arnold. Other recent TV projects include crime drama Unforgotten (2015), sci-fi drama Soulmates (2020), action adventure Jekyll and Hyde (2015) (with David Arnold) and the incredible new BBC/Netflix adaptation of Dracula (2020).

Recent film scores include his latest collaboration with Craig Roberts, Eternal Beauty (2019), hit comedies like The Inbetweeners 2 (2014), psychological thrillers including Another Me (2013) and period dramas such as Cheerful Weather for the Wedding (2012).

In 2011, Michael scored kids' comedy Horrid Henry: The Movie (2011), for Vertigo Films, which stars Anjelica Houston, Noel Fielding and Richard E. Grant, Cheerful Weather for the Wedding (2012), directed by Donald Rice and starring Mackenzie Crook and Elizabeth McGovern, and Paul Wilkins' thriller 7 Lives (2011), starring Danny Dyer and Martin Compston. Later in 2012 will also see the release of Crispian Mills' directorial debut A Fantastic Fear of Everything (2012), starring Simon Pegg, with a bold new score from Michael.

Michael has also scored Wild Target (2010), a romantic comedy directed by Jonathan Lynn of "Yes Minister" fame and with a stellar cast including Bill Nighy, Emily Blunt, Martin Freeman, Rupert Everett and Rupert Grint. This commission swiftly followed Michael's fantastic score for Wild Child (2008), Working Title's successful teen film released in the UK at the beginning of 2009.

After initially developing a successful career as a composer for contemporary dance, in 1996 Michael was invited by composer Michael Kamen to orchestrate and program electronic sounds for the Paramount movie Event Horizon (1997). This led to a long working relationship encompassing a number of highly successful film scores in London, LA and Prague, and concerts in Berlin, New York, San Francisco and Geneva.

In addition to composing for features like Zentropa's Dommeren (2005) and Slingshot Studios' Sugarhouse (2007). Michael scored two documentaries for famous producer and director Alfonso Cuaron; The Shock Doctrine (2007), Naomi Klein's brilliant and terrifying film on disaster capitalism and The Possibility of Hope (2007), a look at different matters of the world such as immigration, global warming and capitalism through the eyes of scientists and philosophers. Michael met Alfonso Cuaron when he scored additional music for the Academy Award winning feature "Children of Men" and worked closely with Cuaron as music editor for this dystopian science fiction film.

Michael enjoyed significant achievements as a music editor with films like Peter Jackson's trilogy The Lord of the Rings (2001), Richard Curtis' Love Actually (2003), Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004) and Nanny McPhee (2005). As a music editor, Michael has been nominated for 4 MPSE Golden Reel Awards, winning in 2001 for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001).
