Biography

Trained in classical roles at the American Shakespeare Festival in Stratford, CT, and at Lincoln Center's Training Program.

Co-starred in "The Man in the Glass Booth" directed by Harold Pinter, and went on to reprise his role in the film version starring Maximilian Schell.

A founding member of the Matrix Theatre in Los Angeles, he has appeared in many of its (double-cast) productions, including "The Birthday Party," "Dangerous Corners," "Mad Forest," "The Seagull," "The Tavern" and "Betrayal."

One of four children (all boys) of Joseph G. Pressman, a Jew who fled Czarist Russia as a teenager who gained United States citizenship through military service in World War I, and New Yorker Rose (Goldberg) Pressman, also Jewish, whose family later settled in Cynthiana, Harrison County, Kentucky. The Pressmans worked as successful retailers in Cynthiana, owning seven local stores and three others in northeast Kentucky. Joseph Pressman would regularly take his four sons to see Broadway plays, which fostered young Lawrence's interest in acting.
