Jay Om Prakash, also credited as J. Om Prakash, was a veteran Indian film producer and director, widely respected in the Hindi film industry. He began his career in Lahore, working in film distribution, before relocating to Mumbai after the Partition. In the early 1960s, he founded his production banner Filmyug and delivered a series of commercial hits, starting with Aas Ka Panchhi (1961). Known for his strong sense of music and lyrics, he played a key role in crafting melodious soundtracks in his films.

He made his directorial debut with Aap Ki Kasam (1974), a box office success starring Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz. His directorial ventures included several popular films such as Apnapan (1977), Aasha (1980), Apna Bana Lo (1982), Arpan (1983), Aakhir Kyon? (1985), and Aadmi Khilona Hai (1993). Most of his film titles began with the Letter "A" or "Aa", a trend he followed deliberately for good luck.

As a producer, he also backed notable films like Ayee Milan Ki Bela (1964), Aya Sawan Jhoom Ke (1969), Aandhi (1975), and the Punjabi film Aasra Pyaar Da (1983).

Beyond filmmaking, Om Prakash held key leadership roles in the Indian film industry. He served as the President of the Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association (IMPPA) from 1962 to 1963, President of the Film Producers Guild for six years, and President of the Film Federation of India from 1995 to 1996. He was also a member of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and served as a guest lecturer at FTII Pune.

His daughter Pinkie Roshan is married to filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, making him the grandfather of actor Hrithik Roshan. In 2004, he was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Asian Guild of London.

His adopted daughter Pinky is married to <a class="ipc-md-link ipc-md-link--entity" href="/name/nm0004363/?ref_=nmtrv_trv">Rakesh Roshan</a>making him <a class="ipc-md-link ipc-md-link--entity" href="/name/nm0004335/?ref_=nmtrv_trv">Hrithik Roshan</a>&#39;s maternal grand father. He belongs to the famous Khan-Roshan family.

Director J. Om Prakash managed to include into his 1980 film &quot;Aasha&quot; the first screen appearance of his grandson - future Hindi film superstar Hrithik Roshan, then aged only 6 - by shooting him in a music interlude without the boy&#39;s knowledge.

J .Om Prakash&#39;s wife and director Mohan Kumar&#39;s wife are real life sisters.

He has directed Dharmendra, Rajesh Khanna and Jeetendra but never worked with Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna and Shatrughan Sinha.

He served as the President of the Indian Motion Picture Producers&#39; Association (IMPPA) from 1962 to 1963,.
