Biography

Atam Prakash was an Indian actor who worked with some eminent stars of the Bollywood industry, including Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna. He is best known for his role as Ranjeet in the cult classic movie Anand. The film is about a terminally ill person whose dream is to live life to the fullest before he dies, as told by his best friend. This movie has since become one of the greatest Hindi films ever made.

Later, in 1974, Atam Prakash produced a thriller film Geetaa Mera Naam, which was directed by Sadhana Shivdasani. The film revolves around a murder investigation in which four siblings, separated at a young age at a fair and raised by different families, cross paths during the investigation.

In 1971, Atam Prakash appeared in a smaller role as the protagonist's college friend in the movie Kal Aaj Aur Kal. The film deals with three generations of a family living together under one roof and managing their disputes. Back in 1969, Atam Prakash also worked as an additional crew member on the movie Intaquam.

Unfortunately, Atam Prakash's life and career were cut short. On October 12, 1976, he died in a plane crash. Indian Airlines Flight 171 burst into flames mid-air due to a fuel leak into the engine. The plane was attempting an emergency landing at the Bombay airport but failed to do so. Ninety-six people died in the crash, including Indian actress Rani Chandra. Veteran actor Jeetendra Kumar was also a passenger on the same flight but missed it. The flight, which was originally scheduled for 7:00 pm, was delayed by two hours. That day happened to be Karva Chauth, and Jeetendra decided to return home to Pali Hill, Bandra, to help his wife complete the ritual of the fast.

Atam Prakash will be missed.
