Biography

Dinny Powell was born on July 27, 1932 in London, England, UK. He was an actor, known for Superman II (1980), Lifeforce (1985) and Brazil (1985). He died on June 6, 2023.

Brother of Nosher Powell, and uncle of Greg Powell and Gary Powell.

Various members of his family have been doing stunt work in Bond movies over a period of more than 40 years.

When he was 13, he began doing stunt work for a small London studio. He went on to become a stunt double for Sean Connery and Roger Moore in James Bond movies.

Was turned down by the army as unfit.

In his boxing career, he fought Joe Erskine, Henry Cooper and Brian London. He fought Erskine to a draw in Cardiff in 1954 over six rounds (the only one of Erskine's first 30 fights that he failed to win). He fought Cooper in 1954 in Harringay and lost when the fight was stopped in the 4th round (only Cooper's second fight). In his final fight, Powell fought London in 1955 in Newcastle, and was knocked out in the 4th round.
